Halloween Activities 2007

This past Sunday the Philadelphians MC celebrated their 33rd anniversary with holding an anniversary lunch at Tarven on Camac from 2 to 4pm,where the various members came in costume. Including myself, which I can done up as a devil, with red glitter horns and a plastic pitchfork. (I don't have any pictures now, but I'll post a couple when I get them.) Then there was the costume bar social at the Bike Stop from 5 to 9pm. I helped out with the bar for the first two hours. The only bad thing happened was that some guy was cruising me and a couple of my club members told me that the guy was bad news, so I was hesitant in going home with him. As the evening wore on he got more aggressive with me and he had to be kicked out of the bar. It turned out that he was pretty drunk. Other than that I had a very good time with my club brothers.

Tonight it was a quiet Halloween. I watched a movie and goofed around on the internet. Played a bit of Siouxsie and the Banshees and that Thee Retrolectro Mix of Madonna's "Die Another Day" (done by Felix Da Housecat).

Now I have to mentally whip myself into shape and do more writing as well as do more housework. I have been slacking lately and I have to force myself to break out of that habit.

In case you're not doing anything this Sunday...

This Sunday, October 28, the Philadelphians MC will be holding a Halloween social in the basement (a/k/a the Pit Stop) of the Bike Stop from 5PM to 9PM. There will be raffle prizes, candy and cheesy decorations, and even a "Best Great Pumpkin" contest where the best carved or decorated pumpkin brought in. Oh yeah, and a lot in people in costume as well. So if want to do any Halloween celebrating on that evening, come on over!

Friday VIdeo #52: Swing You Sinners

Since Halloween is around the corner, I thought I'd show you the 1930 Max Fleischer cartoon Swing You Sinners to get you into the spirit. Done as part of the Talkartoons series (which would also be the launching pad of Betty Boop,) it looks like a warm-up for one of the best-remembered Fleischer cartoons, Bimbo's Initiation, which would come out the following year.

Autumn finally comes around

This month has been usually warm for this time of year. Earlier this week it was high in the low 70's. And at the Outfest I was at a couple of weeks back it was high in the 80s! Well, it looks like things are cooling down now. I had to put a long-selved shirt on before I had to go to work today. Time to put away the summer clothes if you haven't done so already. It looks like fall is in full effect now, with the days getting shorter and the trees turning into different colors.

Hello Mariah

Some people have too much time on their hands between albums.

Then again some of the titles of Mariah Carey's albums sound like they've been written by a twelve year old girl--Butterfly, Rainbow, Glitter, Charmbraclet. So Hello Kitty isn't too far of a stretch for her.

Friday VIdeo #50: New Kylie

I'm in love, woo.

Here is the latest Kylie Minogue single and video, "2 Hearts." It's the first single and leading track off her tenth studio album X, which will be released internationaly in November. The song, a glam-pop romp, was written and produced by the electronic pop group Kish Mauve. Kylie's version is basically a faithful copy of the Kish Mauve original, but her charm really shines through here. I'm liking this a lot already.

The video was directed by Dawn Shadforth, who's done a number of music videos, including Kylie's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and "Spinning Around." If Kylie here looks like if she's been watching a lot of Goldfrapp videos, maybe that's because Shadforth has done a couple of Goldfrapp clips.

If there's any justice, "2 Hearts" would be HUGE in America. But between the state of US pop radio right now (nothing but hip-hop and that trainwreck hobag Britney) and Kylie's US label Capitol already mishandling the album's release (X won't be getting a US release until Februrary 2008, think of all the import sales and illegal downloading that'll be cutting into US sales in that three-month time gap!), I don't think that it's very likely to happen. But then again, Britney just had a hit single in spite of her trainwreck persona and her own record label's lack of promotion, why not someone who's got her shit far more together like Kylie?

Back from the dead and Outfest

Sorry for not posting anything in the past couple of weeks and having that strange picture of Britney staring at you when you click on this blog. Some personal shit has been happening and I need to get my act together. Hopefully I'll be more motivated abd starting posting more often in the near future.

Outfest this past Sunday was fun. I took the Septa R5 train from Paoli into Philly and got there at 1:30pm, no worries over parking. It was quite unusually warm for early October, sunny and highs in the 80's! Also spent a couple of hours at the Liberty Bears social at the Bike Stop as well.
