A Charlie Brown Christmas

A Charlie Brown Christmas will be airing tonight on your local ABC station. It's been forty years since it first aired in 1965.

Seeing that special always rasies a couple of questions:

1. A couple of times Lucy mentions that the Christmas play will be featuring a "Christmas queen" (herself). I've always wondered what does a Christmas queen actually do? Throw diva shit-fits at your brother for bringing his blanket into the play and at a dog for licking your face?

2. When Sally has Charlie Brown write her letter to Santa, she mentions that she wants "tens and twenties." If this was being made today, wouldn't that be "fifties and hundreds?" "Tens and twenties" don't go as far as they did in 1965.

BTW the soundtrack album has to be my favorite Christmas album. I don't see why there needs to be a 40th anniversary tribute album, the original is perfection. Quiet, somber, and yet playful too.

A Christmas Queen is a thankless job. You gotta look pretty and fierce, do a dance, twirl and keep smiling!

As far as tens and twenties, wasn't that the day?! God--it seemed like a king's ransom back in the day.

If you watch the show, you'll know that the answer to that is: Commercialization!!! Isn't that what Xmas is all about?
